Olivia Rodrigo has released her latest single, “The Cure,” offering fans another preview of her third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, arriving June 12.
The track arrives alongside a cinematic music video directed by Cat Solen and Jaime Gerin. Set inside a chilly, handmade cardboard hospital, the visual follows Rodrigo portraying a nurse desperately searching for a remedy for heartbreak. As the story unfolds, she eventually becomes a patient herself, reinforcing the song’s themes of emotional vulnerability and insecurity. The video was produced by Lana Kim, Jett Steiger, and Brandon Robinson through Ways & Means.
In “The Cure,” Rodrigo reflects on the struggle of dealing with self-doubt even while being loved by someone else. The lyrics center on the realization that affection alone cannot always heal deeper emotional wounds.
“this song means so much to me and I’m so so so happy that it’s out in the world. this song is the thesis statement of you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love and it made the whole album click for me. I hope you enjoy it xoxoxox” Rodrigo wrote on Instagram.
“The Cure” follows the success of Rodrigo’s previous single, “Drop Dead,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. With that achievement, she became the first artist to have the lead singles from each of their first three albums debut at the top of the chart.
The new release continues building anticipation for Rodrigo’s next era, blending emotional honesty with dramatic visuals and introspective songwriting.
