More than 16 years after his death, Michael Jackson has added another milestone to his chart legacy, becoming the first artist to earn new entries on the Billboard Hot 100 in six different decades. The achievement comes as renewed interest in his catalog continues following the strong performance of the Michael biopic, alongside a concurrent viral trend across digital platforms.
The achievement comes as Jackson’s track “Chicago” debuted at No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 dated June 6, 2026. The song, originally released on Jackson’s posthumous 2014 album Xscape, marks Jackson’s 52nd solo appearance on the chart and extended his Hot 100 history from the 1970s through the 2020s.
The accomplishment gives Jackson at least one new Hot 100 entry in each decade since the 1970s. His chart totals now include 11 entries in the 1970s, 20 in the 1980s, 12 in the 1990s, four in the 2000s, four in the 2010s and one in the 2020s.
According to chart data, “Chicago” generated 10.7 million U.S. streams during the tracking week ending May 28, helped by growing popularity on TikTok and broader interest in Jackson’s music following the release of the biographical film. Although the song was not a major hit when Xscape was issued, it has found a new audience more than a decade later.
The renewed momentum has extended beyond “Chicago.” Recent Hot 100 charts have also featured returning Jackson classics including “Billie Jean,” “Human Nature,” and “Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough,” reflecting a broader resurgence in listening across streaming platforms.
