Beyoncé surprised fans with the unexpected release of her new single, “Morning Dew (Donk),” marking her first new music in two years.
The song arrived across streaming platforms on the Fourth of July, accompanied by a lyric video featuring archival footage directed by longtime collaborator Cliff Watts; check it out: HERE.
According to Parkwood Entertainment, the new release also began a 60-day countdown to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Bey’s 2006 sophomore album ‘B’Day’ with a deluxe reissue set to arrive on Sept. 4 – which coincides not only with the album’s milestone anniversary, but Beyoncé’s birthday.
“Morning Dew (Donk)” was written by Beyoncé alongside Pharrell Williams, The-Dream and Darius Dixon, with production by Beyoncé and Pharrell. The track was originally recorded during the B’Day era before remaining unreleased for nearly two decades. Parkwood described the single as “a direct nod to her loyal BeyHive to commemorate the upcoming epic celebration of B’DAY,” and confirmed it will appear on the forthcoming anniversary edition of the album.
The surprise release also fueled widespread discussion online, with fans celebrating the official arrival of a song that had long been rumored within Beyoncé’s catalog. While some initially speculated the single could signal the beginning of the artist’s long-anticipated “Act III” project (following 2022’s Renaissance and 2024’s Grammy-winning Cowboy Carter,) Parkwood clarified that the release is tied specifically to the B’Day anniversary campaign rather than a new studio project.
